About Kashi Vishwanath Temple

One of the most sacred twelve Jyotirlingas, situated on the western bank of the sacred river Ganga in the eternal city of Varanasi.

Temple Lore & History

Kashi Vishwanath is mentioned extensively in the Skanda Purana (Kashi Khanda). It stands in the spiritual capital of India, continuously worshipped for millennia. The temple was reconstructed by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore in 1780 and has recently been expanded into the magnificent Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor.

Spiritual Significance

Believed to be the place where Lord Shiva whispers the Taraka Mantra into the ears of departing souls, bestowing instant Moksha (liberation). Performing Rudrabhishek and archana here removes past karma and brings supreme spiritual awakening.

Devotee Visitor Guide

Traditional Indian attire recommended. Devotees are requested to leave mobile phones and electronic devices in designated locker facilities at the Dham entrance. Wheelchair assistance is available at Gate 4.
